Take A Stand for Healthy Relationships is an exciting new program from the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NCADV) and Discovery Education that teaches students how to understand and build healthy relationships. New standards-aligned curriculum will encourage important skills in communication, self-awareness, and emotional intelligence.

Curriculum

With self-paced modules and lesson plans, students will garner important skills in communication, self-awareness and emotional intelligence to help them build healthy relationships. Accompanying educator guides provide school staff with strategies to support students through the critical content. 

 

Module One - Developing Emotional Intelligence

Grades 6-12

Students will ...

  • Work to build an understanding of emotions
  • Explore what influences the thoughts and feelings they have about themselves and those around them
  • Examine the importance of empathy when it comes to interpersonal relationships

Module Two - External Influencers

Grades 6-12

Students will ...

  • Explore messages the media propagates about men and women
  • Reflect on the impact those messages may have on a person's ability to maintain healthy relationships
  • Deconstruct these external influecers and "flip the script" by changing the lens they use when consuming these sources

Module 3 - Love and Respect

Grades 6-12

Students will ...

  • Reflect on love as it's represented in different types of relationships
  • Explore healthy, respectful and safe relationship examples while focusing on healthy conflict and treating one another well
  • Learn how to build health relationships from the beginning

Module 4 - Creating Healthy Relationships

Grades 6-12

Students will ...

  • Debate the differences between healthy, unhealthy, and abusive relationships, while considering the warning signs of abuse
  • Work to define dating abuse and explore statistics surrounding teen dating violence
  • Unpack the components of abuse, test their own relationships for warning signs, and reflect on the results
